Supplementing The Educational Sector With ELLUC’s Services

We have been providing our services across the educational sector for over 15 years, and as our services lines have grown, so has our ability to work on a diverse range of projects, working on refurbs and new builds for primary schools all the way up to universities. Working with some of the top construction businesses within the UK, including Keepmoat and Galliford Try, we have successfully delivered civil and structural engineering, precast, building information modelling (BIM) and hydrology services.


We have circa 15 years’ experience providing flood risk planning advice on behalf of private developers as well as public sector entities. Flood risk assessments are the primary work undertaken by our hydrology department, alongside producing drainage strategies to remove objections for planning applications. We have successfully designed countless drainage strategies that have achieved planning. We’re a technical advisor on drainage and flood risk for the Education School Funding Agency; providing independent advice on other consultants for the agency on all schools.

We are a sub-consultant for Bailey Partnership working on a framework on behalf of Kent County Council. The Framework Agreement involves the design and project management of new extensions, seasonal watercourse and refurbishments to a wide range of public properties particularly schools for circa 13 sites.


Headed up by George Isles (head of structures) who possesses chartered status in structural engineering, ensures the structural team are producing only the best designs for a majority of live educational projects.

A great example of working in a live environment with structural engineering designs is Holy Trinity School, Manchester. This project was a new 2 storey primary school with a double sports hall. Effective pre-planning was carried out in a pre-start meeting to understand all stakeholders involved to successfully provide our services within a live environment.


We work in a fully collaborative BIM environment with all projects executed to a minimum Level 2 standard and we are one of a handful of consultants to be working across multiple BIM platforms using common data files for information exchange and collaboration. We have developed our own BIM execution plans and can, if required, produce a Project Execution Plan (PEP) specific for the scheme which will aid in bringing all consultants together under a common data environment. We also have historically and are currently working on a number of new build schemes such as Cambridge University lot 5 and Ark John Keets Academy.

Ark John Keats academy’s new 2 story new-build development was formed to be an all-through school, this is a school that allows pupils to go from nursery all the way through to the sixth form. Some of the facilities included in the build was a theatre style main hall, outdoor sports courts, a fitness studio, classrooms, a full-size multi-purpose sports hall and lecture rooms. Within the existing campus, the build was completed working in a live education environment.


Our team of precast specialists has been delivering precast concrete schemes for contractors and fabricators since the business was founded with many of our staff bringing a wealth of experience from detailing and off-site fabrication backgrounds.

We provided structural engineering services including precast concrete designs on Southampton University. This included all design and detailing works associated with the precast concrete frame and any supporting steelwork required. This particular design route was agreed by all parties as the best solution, as it saves build time on site.
